THE FLYING CIRCUS

Hello blogging friends!
My visitors have just gone.
The best visitors ever, two sisters.

They came here to go to the Edinburgh Yarn Festival and to the beach.
Could you please admire Lavinia's new jacket and headband.
Ethel says hello too, and she is quite happy with her fair-isle jumper and noisy bird brooch.

* * * * *

Some of my sketchbooks are for small black pen drawings only.
I don't draw anything in particular, just let the pen go for a little walk inside each tiny square or rectangle.

I start one of these pages with something, anything, in the first square, often with no idea of where I'm going, and expand and change it gradually in the following squares.

I fill in a square just when I'm passing, last thing at night, or in-between other pursuits.
It's surprising what turns up.

What is the bird in the third picture doing?

Maybe there is a flower at the top of the stem.

Getting ready for action.

Adding some colour

with watercolours and pens.

Some time later......

It's Arfer the Hypnotist, at the Flying Circus!

He's trying to hypnotise the flower into dropping all of its leaves!
And almost succeeding!

The flower is resisting (or pretending to play along) and has kept two of its leaves.
Don't worry, it can grow back the lost leaves very soon.

This is no ordinary circus, this is "The Flying Circus", run and organised by the birds and creatures themselves.

Next time - "The Elephant who loves to play drums".

How nice to see your working desk with the sight into the garden!
And the way you came to your picture as well. It's a wonderful flower who seems to look at the the lovely bird (who looks a little bit surprised). The flowers at the bottom could be waving hands as well. It's a great circus scene!

The girls are so cute! I'll bet it's a knitting challenge who comes along fashioning the coolest of cool jumpers or jackets. Hello girls, you look fabulous.
Ok, so now that I have the secret to drawing, I made a square and held my pen over it. NOTHING happened! LoL. I think I must not have the right pen. And why am I so afraid to stand my markers on end? Such a fear of one end drying out...and I don't even know if that would happen. Phobias are crazy.
What isn't crazy are your delight drawings and paintings. Before reading everything, I thought the bird got hungry and ate all the leaves. But I see now that he's a great hypnotist. I agree with Beo, he looks surprised that his hypnotism worked. LoL. Such a pretty flower, I'm glad its leaves will grow back shortly. I love your colorful framing. You must be a kid at heart with circus on your mind. I always love a circus.

Oh, I'm so sorry to have forgotten the teddies! Best greatings to them!! I was in hurry because I had to go. They look so cute in their new jacket and jumper. I think you and your sisters have been very busy. Is the brooch selfmade too? And are Lavinia and Ethel twins? I'm not sure if I should know that already...

It's really exciting to follow your process picture by picture and then see the most lovely result. Your phantasy is really breathtaking! I love the colors and the expression of the funny birds, It's like watching a cute little film :)
Such a pitty that your super cool looking visitors are gone. Are they travelling? Do you think they will come to see Germany as well? Wherever they might go the sisters are most welcomed here!

Bears are looking good. Hope they don't get cold sitting on the grass. Who needs mindfulness colouring in books maybe you need to publish your own. Great story telling as usual but that desk is just so tidy.

I love all the beautiful doodles you created, but the darling bird and flower made me smile. Of course, if I had YOUR view to look at while coloring, I might do a better job. You are truly blessed with a gorgeous view, a lovely desk, and wonderful art. Even the sisters would agree, I'm sure.

Oh this is totally delightful! I love how you fill in your little boxes and get inspiration from there and your mix of water colour and felts, the colours are wonderful. I also love Arfer the hypnotist, he's doing a great job, super fun as always round here!
Those 2 sisters are so sweet, thanks for popping them in too, they look very happy sitting there by the daffodils.

I was fascinated by your explanation of how your creative thumbprint sketches develop, as well as the finished products. I also love the view from your work desk. Happy Easter!

Faye said...

Wow, that third one really developed. I thought it was darling as a simple sketch. It looked like the bird was trying to decide if the plant was still alive as I have been doing all over my yard. Then as you added features and color the sketch became alive with action. Loved it.

Haha, at all times the best stories to read! The circus run by birds! I mean how awesome is this, who don´t want to take a sneak peek into their shows! And what to see there: beautilishous flowers who can grow back easiely their leaves AFTER letting them fall whenever they want...Now I think about have they years of training time to absolve to learn this, or are they born like this?! Many questions arise...think I have to go to the show to get them answered ;) Hugs and happy easter Sheila!!♥ Conny http://mix-it-monthly.blogspot.de
