THE ALIEN VISITS THE MALL

Remember the four-armed alien? - from here?

She's back - and she's shopping at the Mall.

I made it using

a page from one of my travel journals, just under 6 x 6 inches,

a page from my one of my 4 x 4 inch colour sketchbooks

and one of my 6 x 9 inches oil pastel and dye paintings which use the patterns on the soles of shoes as inspiration for designs.

Linking to the "Take a Word" challenge, theme "Arch" and
also linking to "Art Journal Journey", theme "Living Beings" as my art journals have been taken on a photo-editing journey and the alien says she is definitely a Living Being out shopping.

In the dark ages, before artistic computers, I used to make this kind of design using photocopied images, scissors and glue.
Scanning and photo-editing is much more accurate and flexible and just as much fun.

I want to go shopping in that mall now! I'm sure I would magically find everything I were looking for. I think your alien is from the royal family. He looks very majestic to me. I love the colors of it all too. "In the dark ages..." haha...I remember that age!

Was there such a time as pre-computers? Love the alien. When your fighting with trolleys and supermarket bags one needs four arms. The oil pastel drawings are marvellous. Love it, Awesome !!

Superb images, shapes and colors are beautiful indeed. I specially love the 'sole of shoe' work. You should do fabric patterns, you would be a perfect designer! :)

I have taken time to really enjoy all of this wonderful creativity! Wow you really have a way with art and technology and combining it all so well. Your art is authentic and so you! I love that alien, always such fun and full of style, so interesting that you get inspired from soles of shoes for designs, it's amazing what can inspire if we take the time to look and find inspiration, thanks so much for all you share!

This must be great to have four arms when going for shopping! And it looks great too how you have combined the alien shopping queen with the colorful pattern on the second picture!

If only real life malls looked that good instead of being filled with mobile phone shops, jb sports and indifferent food courts!

I had to laugh about the "before" comment. I resemble that remark!

Loved your mall alien. It's been so long since I've been to a mall, I'm not even sure I'd know how to act. Much less like your adorable alien.

I love the creative way in which you have painted your arches, Sheila. The tiny alien is the perfect foil. She looks very much at home. Great work.

Wonderful, creative works! I love the shopping mall lady, but what a waste! With more than 2 arms she should have several more shopping bags full of goodies. :)

Pia Rom said...

Oh Sheila you crack me up with your "sole of the shoes"-design!! What a great mall you have build out of it :) and the best there are growing flowers on the roof! hah, I would love to shop in it too!! I would need six arms or more I guess ;) ahh and now I found the pattern from the travel journal...you are so clever!! big hugs ♥ Conny

I have to say it looks like the alien is shopping in a mall in Hong Kong as in nearly every picture I can see high rise buildings, and colourful too like HK.
