THE BLACK CAT UNDER THE LILAC TREE

At  "Art Journal Journey" Jo is asking us to make art inspired by poetry or a quote
and at "Moo-Mania" Susi has the theme "Cats".

I chose the poem "The Cat" by Robin Skelton.

The cat stood under the lilac.
It was black.
The sky was blue, the grass green,
and it stood
black under the lilac
that was lilac
under the sky that was all over blue.

The poem told me exactly what to paint.

  2. Oh my goodness, what a truely delightful poem and your painting captures it beautifully! I love your black cat, his eyes look so soulful while he waits on the green grass under the lilac tree with a sky that was all over blue - I love it! The colours are so vibrant and I love how they have merged together to create that beautiful texture and lines of colour - amazing! Thanks for sharing this wonderful page at Art Journal Journey, it made me smile 😁. Have a wonderful week dear Sheila! J 😊

  5. This is just wonderful, Sheila!!
I love the lilic and the black cat with its lovely eyes!
And of course a bird and some flowers have to be there as well.
I like that poem and had to laugh about it.
Is this out of the book "I hate that cat" ? You know, nobody hates the cat
    in that book.
I wonder how you did this lovely green hills and the sky.
And are the leaves of the lilac on holidays right now?
I hope they will have good time :)

  6. How cute that poem is! And you're right, it told you exactly how to paint the scene. I love how your grass and lower, distant sky looks...I always love that watery-color look. Birdie is jealous and wants to perch on the lilac and be in the picture too. The lilac is inviting with it's pretty blooms. But I suspect kitty will be boss and decide to let birdie stay or frighten him away. I like the bitty grass flowers too.

  7. An absolutely ADORABLE poem and a really great painting, too. I love the bird, the wonderful cat, and the lilac. Simply wonderful that the poem told you exactly how the scene should look. I love it all.

  9. That's a fantastic poem and you certainly created it in picture form.:) I like your cat. I spent my day trying to get a face I liked on a cat I painted. Cat faces aren't so easy but yours do look just like a cat. Mine went from angry cat to pig to person without a nose and hopefully, maybe back to cat. Hmmm. Hope all is well. Hugs-Erika

    there came the flying bird

  14. Your creative mix of materials and photoshop is brilliant as ever, including poetry this time. Naughty cat better not catch the bird, we don't want a kaleidoscope of colours all over the place. Love it, Awesome !!
