SUMMER FLOWERS IN THE RAIN

The ever-inventive Elizabeth is hosting Susi's  "Art Journal Journey"  this month with the theme "Summertime Love".

Call me strange, but one of the things I love about Summertime is the rain, whether it is the gentle soft rain or the bouncing off the pavements rain, and of course the flowers and plants love it too, especially the vegetables which thrive on water.

I gave my watercolour pens the week off and went back to my normal practice of using every colour in the box to make

FLOWERS IN THE RAIN

The original paintings were made with oil pastels and watercolours and the results photo-edited.

And of course the other good thing about rain in Summer is that we are "allowed" to stay indoors and make art.

Yes - rain is such a good thing - we should appreciate every drop of it!

  4. Since I live in a very dry part of my country, I don't often think of rain and summer going together. But all that has changed this year, because every night for over a week, we've been bombarded with wind-driven torrents that all but toppled over many of my herbs. What didn't get damaged were the flowers in my flower bed. They remind me of your beautiful flowers created for your first AJJ entry this month. I can use my imagination (which is always fun here at Orange Esmeralda) and see the flowers dancing in the rain. I can see the summer love in these dancing flowers, and love how you put this entry together.

  6. Rainy days make me smile as I get to spend time creating art too 😀. Your flowers are beautiful with their vibrant colours and they look so happy as if they are dancing in the rain! I like to go for a walk whilst or after it has rained, the air always seems so fresh and exhilarating 😁. Wishing you a lovely week! J 😊

  8. Oh, look at these gorgeous, bright flowers in the rain. They are loving it, we can tell. I love how you make your oil pastels look. I assume it is an editing effect. Aren't their stems and leaves just as showy. I love that rainy look, its so awesome. That's a great border for the flower trio. So, have you blended the watercolors and oil pastels? Or, the flowers are pastels and the border is watercolors? I cannot figure it out.

i love rain in summer... actually we had way too less of it this year so far, the soil is dry... some showers last week, but not much enough really (though good enough to cool down a bit, what a relief!).
have a nice week, sheila ♥

(would make a wonderful card) and that's a great background effect - its like looking through a rainy window.
Nothing like the freshness after a good downpour - and being indoors making art in the dry :)

  14. I also love the rain, after some dry and hot sunny days, when I have to water my garden every time :)
And I know, my flowers love the rain more than my watering.
Your dancing flowers in the rain are happy now, the beautiful colors show it! And the border is wonderful too!

  16. Since you are really right, when it rains, have more time for art in the house ... but also when it is too hot! Today is again such a day, the sun is burning - too warm on the south balcony ... so, time to work at the desk!

  23. Such a refreshing piece, those flowers sure are happy in the rain! Rain does feel so good when it comes after the heat, the Earth so greedy to soak up the water. I love how you made this, such a good rainy effect, unique and special as always round here!

  24. Love the vivid colours of your three flowers, and of the leaves in their dark border! Such a contrast to the soft pastel colours of the rain in the background! Rain is indeed an excuse to escape indoors from the garden, which is such a Task Master in the summer. Hope you and Mr E enjoyed your trip to the SW. Hugs

  25. Gorgeous whimsical flowers, love them :) I enjoy rain to keep our trees and plants growing and healthy. We've had much more rain than normal over here and it's causing delays in house building (including ours). Take good care, Shirleyxx
