GETTING THE PENS BACK TO WORK

After the holiday it was time for my pens to get back to work, so I got out a selection

and gave them a sketchbook.
My Real Life friend J. makes these wonderful, beautiful, useful sketchbooks in different sizes and I have a nice little stash of them.

The pens just looked at me, silent.

"What's wrong?".
"We don't know what to do".

Good grief.  Now I've got pens with artist's block.

"OK", I said, "Draw an orange circle and take it from there".

And they did.

Oh a bird, that's predictable.
I've absolutely no idea where they're going with this.  What are these funny squarish purple things in the sky?

I see what they've done with the square blobs.
And now we've got two crawly things.

It's getting a bit better.

Thanks pens, I'm taking over now.

THE HAPPY ORANGE FLOWER

What do you think will happen next?

Is the happy flower in danger?
Who lives in the two little houses?
What about the purple blobs?  Friend or foe?
Who is that, on the extreme right?  I'd have liked to see more of him.

  1. Glad you were able to inspire your pens to do some work. I don't like the look of those purple blogs, they look dangerous. And the bird looks hungry, too, like the greedy pigeons here. Thanks for joining us at AJJ, hugs, Valerie

  2. Oh an exciting situation --- I am worried about the happy flower and it's baby - hope they are not in great danger ! Looking forward to the next episode!
Great that you got the Tombows working ....
Well done - they need to come out from time to time, otherwise they may run the risk of drying up!
Thanks for joining AJJ again dear Sheila!
Wish you have/had fun with visitors !

  3. I'm concerned about the bird in the corner, will it dive and pick something or just land quietly onto the ground, very interesting piece. I think you enjoyed to take out the pens :)

  4. Oh this is fun!! I love how you draw us in your story art, there is so much happening, that beautiful flower is not in danger, she is so happy and radiant in flower land, welcoming new friends, the purple flower petals who want to join this new found land. I'm sure the flower fairies who live in those sweet houses will welcome them too, as will the little creatures crawling slowly by enjoying their slow paced life. I too would have liked to see more of that other creature on the right, who knows we may get to know his/her story next time...

  7. You have such an original and creative imagination. If I had those pens, they would just look at me and laugh. They know I can't draw. I adore what yours created and how beautifully you finished this page.

I think the little purple blobs live in the houses. They are on their way to school and have been taught not to pick the flowers, especially the big orange one that protects their homes.

I'd also like to see more of the little creature on the far right. I'm sure you'll conjure something up in your truly Orange Esmeralda fashion and we'll have an equally fun time reading about it.

  9. I think the creepy crawlers live in those little houses. One is going home and one is going out. And the bird, though not predictable, is a big meany coming in to grab one of the little creepy crawlies. Hope the orange flower is a good guardian to protect them. Its another fun piece and a love your story how you made it. Great little journal too. You're lucky you have a friend who makes them. :) Glad you stopped by AJJ again and hope your day is/will be a good one. Hugs-Erika

  10. A very fun post today, Sheila! It has me smiling. I can't believe your pens had a moment there! LoL. The only thing I know for sure is that "the twins" live in those cute houses. And you know they could never live anywhere that looks "normal". The bird looks not only large, but hungry. If I were the crawly things, I'd be running for cover right now. Of course the happy orange flower is not worried, so I suspect the fright is all for naught. Another delightfully enchanted painting.

  11. Oh, that paper looks so inviting, thick, marvelous!!! Glad your pens found the way.

I'm not guessing what happens next, since I know your pens know it best <3

  12. Pens a Go Go. Super. Boxy has one house (the one in the middle I think). The crawlies are heading for the second house for a game of snakes and ladders. The blobs are defending Mrs Orange and son from the bird. And thats just a little bit of what's happening. Great stuff, keep the pens rolling, Love it, Awesome !!

  15. fun fun fun
I would have never imagined there could be a 'foe' in your colorful charming art. But now through your suggestion I can imagine it. Amazing how that works.

Your houses, though they clearly have windows and a door, look more like expressions of eyes and a mouth. This adds a lot of character for me.

Yes, who is that to the right of the page?

  16. Lively pens once they got unblocked ...
    combined with your brilliant imagination!
If you could hear the drilling and pounding going on here by a crew of handsome Greek gentleman you would understand why I am not chiming in to answer your queries ;-)
When the dust settles we will have said farewell to our trusty wood burning stove and hello to some clean gas logs.
    Tootles for now oxo

  18. I like your sketchbook very much, it's tied from watercolor paper, a fine idea! I would also like to make such a sketchbook ... then simply put a few pins next to it and paint great stories like you do!
Such a beautiful, colorful picture again and there is again a lot to discover in it!
It always looks like you have a lot of fun by painting, like pure relaxation.

  19. "pens with artist's block"... i´m sure you are giggling when you write this...
nice to follow the act of creation. i like the "faces" of the houses (with their chimney-hair). i also wonder what Comes down from the right top... and maybe the creature from the right side will step into the next page? so fun!
    have a good time!

  21. I understand your pens very good - I know artist's block too! But you told them the best beginning ever ... and then the play is running, and you had to say "stop" to the pens. You made a wonderful picture out of the pen's work!
One purple blob has just landed and tells the crawlers that there is danger coming - the three-legs-bird! On the extremely right the third crawler is waiting - he only comes into the picture, if there is no danger. And because of the bird he does not come in! The flower is not in danger - "she" is the "Happy Orange Flower". I think the purple blobs are living in the two houses, and they are just coming home.

  22. From blank page to very busy picture your pens have been busy. With a little help from you. The purple squares look as if they have had enough and are walking out of the picture. Exit right. Hope they make it before the big bird swoops

  23. Beautiful, you always make me smile! Your orange flower looks too happy to be in danger, I think everyone is stopping by to say hello :-). The squares look like little birds to me flying in formation ... lol. I love the setting you created with those pretty lavender mountains, you create such wonderful perspectives. Hope you had a lovely time with your visitors and wishing you a great weekend! J :-)

  26. A lovely fun post as always Sheila.
The sketchbooks your friend made look very nice and useful and look like they lay lovely and flat when open.
Fabulous page - I love visiting your world - hope we see what happens next in this intriguing story.
I wonder if the purple blobs live in the houses and they are returning home only to find they may be invaded by the 3 crawlies. The flower looks worried, but the bird I think is a friend to the blobs and will save the day :)
Hope you are having a lovely weekend.
