THE PENS DO IT AGAIN

At "Art Journal Journey" this month Valerie has chosen the theme "Indian Summer".

We have had a beautiful Indian Summer this weekend so I went out into the garden to see what was about.
There were purple asters, marigolds, berries on bushes and so much else.

I got out some of my pens

and let them do it.

Painting the marigolds.

What happens next I wondered?

Painting the asters and the pond

and then a kitten wanders in.

Hey pens, it's looking bit wimphy.

I had to step in and do a bit of outlining.

Here's what I like about what the pens did.

I like the sweet kitten, the little pond, the garden towers and all the flowers.  I'm not too sure about the ploughed field and the forest at the top.

But it's not too bad.

  2. It's just great what your pens did and you had just to outline what they did- that is the gift of making art! Wonders happen!
What a lovely painting ! Thank you so very much for creating for Valerie's October theme at AJJ Sheila!
Have a wonderful new week ahead - hopefully the Indian summer will stay with you - we had some wonderful warm days as well - but this Sunday we got rain and it is much colder than it was.
But it's also o.k. for me.. now I can bring the inspirations of the last days to paper!

  6. Oh, please send me some magic art dust to sprinkle over my Tombows. They do not know how to play like yours do. I set them out with paper and they just lie there lazy, lazy, lazy. A sweet painting, Sheila. I so adore little kitty! She has a fabulous personality. She's also so lucky to live in this delightful setting. I want to pull up a chair to sit and read by the pond. Maybe kitty is headed to the pond to do a little fishing for lunch. I also love your aging fence back there.

  10. What a joy to watch your pens at work. Of course, when you took over, the art became even more personal. I think the ploughed field shows the summer harvest is over and the field is now ready to accept winter seed. This is a beautiful entry from your colorful mind and inventive pens. It's a lovely AJJ entry and an adorable kitty, too.

  11. Your pens have done a wonderful work. Just by themselves... :)
And it is amazing what you did just outlining them. That brings such a different
into the picture. I like the wood and the fields I think they look as if they have to be there.
Of course I love the sweet kitten and the flowers.
Did you paint it (you and your pens) into a handmade book? I saw the stiches on the left side.

  19. I like the way you built up this picture - or no, the pens did it :) Great job they have done! It is very interesting how the picture changed, when the outlines came to it. Only Kitty looks a little afraid about the outlines? The whole story makes me smile, thank you so much!

  20. I love the way your art work was created over the photos - fascinating! The ploughed fields and forest remind me of autumn and I like the way the background curves into the centre to draw your eye to the cute kitty cat, the little pond, the garden towers and all those flowers - magical! Happy Friday :-)

  21. Love the sweet scene you have created Sheila and the process of how you created it.
When I read about the ploughed field and forest at top, for some reason I could hear 'Time Teams' Tony Robinson in my head suggesting a good place to dig :)
Have a lovely weekend... Gill x

  24. Not bad AT ALL!
Really charming and I rather like that field in the back.
It beckons and adds a bit of mystery (like what's out there anyway!)
Amazing how outlining brought your lovely sketches alive.
Happy October days to you in your magical garden
