THE BLUE CARROT

At this time of the year sowing and planting in the garden take precedence over other activities, as in Scotland we have a relatively short summer season, so seeds must be sown early to get a chance to grow into strong plants.

Then the little plants crowd round the windows of the house and greenhouse because (they say) it's too cold to go out.

Like this little blue carrot, waiting for some warm sunny days.

But here's a little flower braving the cold east wind.

This week it rained but now it is sunny and the plants are growing strongly.

Hope you are having a happy whatever season you are having!

  6. Awww, new delightful imaginings from your ever delightful imagination. Such a chilled sweet little carrot. I turn a bit blue as well when I am cold, but not such a lovely shade. That background looks quite stormy. I really love the flower! The simplicity of the lone beauty is gorgeous! The flower stands so lovely against the background. Lovely work my friend!

  7. Sweet little blue carrot - I hope your real ones turn our orange. Love the background, like the fizzing of energy behind the carrot, helping him to grow. The flower painting is lovely too, I always enjoy the way you can make a complete painting out of simple, minimal details - real artistry.

  14. Ooh! Shivery blue weather again today, one wonders how everywhere outside can be so green and springlike when it feel so cold! I love your background to the little blue carrot, such lovely rich purple tones, and such varied textures. The hopeful little red flower has a very muted background, very fluid - I love it! Keep it up, Sheila, warmer weather must be just round the corner!

  15. Is the carrot blue because it is so cold? Love the ethereal background of the simple flower painting, very effective in promoting the simplicity of the lovely flower. As usual brilliant use of colour and composition in both pictures. Happy seedling planting, hope the sun comes to you soon x
