IS THIS AN ABSTRACT?

What is an abstract?
Is it a painting without a recognisable subject?
Is it an image painted in a non-realistic way?
Or what?
Is this an abstract?

One of my favourite challenges "Mix it Monthly" is asking us to make an abstract using these colours.

So I made a frame, first.
Why make a frame first?
Why not?
And because it was to be an abstract the frame was on two sides only,

followed by this

and because I like to make maximum use of my paintings by reusing and recycling images, I brought Millicent over from here

to create, with the help of Photo-editing, this.

I think it's an abstract.

And now I think it's also a "Fantasy Scene", the theme this month at

So if it's a scene, does that mean it's not an abstract?

  3. I think you could say it's an abstract scene, or perhaps a scenic abstract, or that it is a semi-framed abstract scene or scenic abstract....Whatever the philosophical viewpoint, I like it! Valerie

  4. Haha, Sheila you are the master of questions ;) I am so love your art and I decide it IS an abstract :)If anyone says its not, you can tell that the lil ufo will be flown away so soon, because ufos do this...they don´t stay long in one place...and so voila....no thing involved..abstract...what I said ;)I am so glad you are part of the incredible Mix It Monthly - Gang ♥ Conny

  10. I like your idea of recycling images from past paintings. I just went through a bunch of mine and I think I will reuse some of the parts that I like. This is a great piece.

  19. This is lovely, Sheila! Millicent on her travels in your new fantasy scene, which is, or isn't an abstract! I like her new colour, and the vibrant colours of the rest of the scene. This would make a lovely little card, too!
    Hugs!

  22. It's an abstract, and a great one too. I like the idea of drawing the frame first, it must take you on a different journey, and I shall try that to see what happens - always inspired by you and your art.

  24. I love your thoughts as well as your abstract scene? And certainly there are abstract scenes. The only thing is: you wouldn't recognize them to be scenes as they are abstracts. So the question might be: can scenes be seen when their/they're ABS(anti-be-seens)tracked?
